Pilarquim has officially introduced PILARXANIL Nano in Ecuador, a new fungicide developed to support the control of late blight in potatoes, one of the most destructive diseases affecting the crop in the Andean region.
Addressing a Major Threat to Potato Production
Late blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans, remains a major challenge for potato growers. Under high disease-pressure conditions, the disease can cause yield losses of up to 70% if not properly managed, significantly affecting both productivity and crop quality.
The launch event brought together more than 120 potato growers, technical advisors, distributors, and industry representatives from Ecuador’s agricultural sector. During the event, participants were introduced to the product’s field performance, technical characteristics, and application benefits.
PILARXANIL is formulated with Dimethomorph and Cymoxanil, two active ingredients widely used in late blight management. The product also incorporates Pilarnano® technology, Pilarquim’s advanced nanoformulation technology, designed to improve coverage, distribution, adhesion, and persistence of the active ingredients on the leaf surface.
“With PILARXANIL Nano, we are taking an important step toward more efficient disease management. Pilarnano® allows us to optimize product deposition, improve adhesion, and increase persistence on the plant, which contributes to more consistent control of the pathogen,” said Pilarquim’s Country Manager for Ecuador during the launch event.
Strong Field Performance in Ecuadorian Highlands
According to field trial data presented at the event, PILARXANIL Nano demonstrated strong performance in potato-growing areas of the Ecuadorian highlands affected by late blight. Trials showed very obvious reductions in disease severity, along with improvements in yield-related parameters, including the number of marketable tubers per plant and crop uniformity.
“Under high humidity and strong disease-pressure conditions, plots treated with PILARXANIL Nano showed remarkable crop health compared with conventional programs. This represents a valuable new tool for potato growers,” said the Research and Development Director of the local distributor.
Supporting More Efficient Disease Management
The launch of PILARXANIL Nano reflects the growing adoption of advanced agricultural technologies aimed at improving application precision, input efficiency, and field performance. By integrating nanotechnology into fungicide formulation, Pilarquim seeks to provide growers with more effective solutions for managing key crop diseases.
With the introduction of PILARXANIL Nano in Ecuador, Pilarquim aims to strengthen its role as a strategic partner for potato producers, offering innovative solutions that combine technology, and practical field performance to address one of the crop’s most critical disease challenges.
